Your Moon sign

Enter a date, time and place of birth to see the Moon sign (Chandra rashi) of Vedic tradition, and the nakshatra when the time is known, with what tradition links with the sign.

  • The Vedic Moon sign from a date, time and place of birth.
  • The nakshatra and its pada when the time is known.
  • Time not known? If the Moon changed sign that day, you see both, honestly.

How it works

  1. Enter the birth details

A date of birth, the time if known, and the nearest Indian city.

  2. See the Moon sign

The Moon's position is worked out the Vedic way, with the Lahiri ayanamsa, to give the rashi and, with the time, the nakshatra.

  3. Save the ones you want

Nothing is kept unless you save it, and anything saved can be removed at any time.

What tradition links with Karka (Cancer)

  • Caring and protective
  • Close to home and family
  • Sensitive and intuitive

Worked out from the Moon's position for Pune with the Lahiri ayanamsa, which most Indian panchangs use. Times are taken as IST: for a birth before 1955, or during 1942 to 1945 when clocks ran an hour ahead, check the time on the certificate.

These are the traditional associations of the sign, the same for everyone born with the Moon in it. They say nothing of what will happen.

Questions about Rashi Profile

Does it say what will happen?

No. It gives the sign the Moon was in at birth and what tradition links with that sign. Nothing more.

Why is it not my Western star sign?

Western star signs follow the Sun through the tropical zodiac. Vedic tradition names a person's rashi from the Moon, in the sidereal zodiac, which is about 24 degrees behind the tropical one today.

What if I don't know the time of birth?

The Moon changes sign about every two and a half days. If it stayed in one sign all that day, you see that sign; if it changed, you see both and the time it changed. The nakshatra needs the time.
